United States of Tara is a new Showtime series. This show is hands down the best show of the new season. I wasn’t going to watch this now, but I found myself drawn into the story.
Tara (Toni Collette) is a wife and mother of teenage children. Tara has dissociative identity disorder. Whenever Tara is stressed out she changes into one of four personalities such as the 15-year-old “T” and the the redneck good ole’ boy “Buck”. I love the way the two children have totally accepted that their mother has these multiple personalities. It is both priceless and really sweet. Aside from the fact that Tara changes into other people, her family of four is anything but ordinary. Tara’s son (Keir Gilchrist) has a crush on a boy in his film class, her daughter (Brie Larson) struggles to locate boundaries with men, and Tara’s hard-working and committed husband, played by Northern Exposure’s “Chris in the Morning” John Corbett, remains understanding of it all. This 21st century dysfunctional family is truly one to watch.
The only problem I have with the show is I recently canceled Showtime! It’s either pony up $10 a month or wait for the season to come out on DVD this summer. I don’t know what to do!
