A lot of people have asked me where I got the name Thoughtbeast. Believe it or not, I got it from a Superman encylopedia.
Back in 1978 when the movie Superman starring Christopher Reeve came out, I bought a book entitled The Great Superman Book by Michael Fleisher. The book is filled with an A through Z listing of the Superman mythos up to 1978. The comic panel below is from the section of the book describing Superman’s home planet Krypton. In the panel, we see that Superman has traveled back in time and space to Krypton where he and Jax-Ur, Krypton’s most dangerous criminal, encounter a “thought-beast.”
According to The Great Superman Book, the “thought-beast” is a large, primitive, rhinocerouslike creature with a spiked tail and a single large horn protruding from its snout. The “thought-beast’s” most distinctive feature was a television-like “thought-screen” atop its head which flashed picture images of whatever it was thinking. Cool!
